Security cameras installed!

Devin and Manuel worked all day to get our new security cameras hooked up!

Weekly meet: August 28th, 2012

What’s going on August 28th at Gainesville Hackerspace:

  • Lots of hanging out and working on projects!
  • Tuesday nights are open to all. Doors open at 7pm. Feel free to bring a project to work on!

This meeting will be held at our new location, 101 SE 2nd Pl, Ste 100, Gainesville, FL 32601.

We almost have internet access at the downtown space!

Frank, Manuel, Ian, Charles, and Colin and Nate from Grooveshark did a TON of work tonight to set up a wireless bridge from Grooveshark’s office to our building, and the only remaining step is to run a connection downstairs from the Grooveshark cafe (which is also getting hooked up) to Hackerspace.

If all goes according to plan, we will probably have good internet access by sometime tomorrow evening!

For those who haven’t heard, Grooveshark is donating an awesome internet connection to Hackerspace! We are super lucky to know those guys.

Keurig machine has arrived!

Now we have awesome quick coffee via a Keurig coffee machine. We’re asking for $1 donation per cup. Please try it out!20120820-212341.jpg

Building shelves, painting ceiling, and more

Last Saturday the 11th, lots of people showed up to work on various projects at downtown Gainesville Hackerspace. Here’s a partial list of stuff that happened:

  • Randy, Jessica, Kristina, and Dan assembled shelves
  • Chris touched up the ceiling paint
  • Effie and Jim tested out some techniques for cleaning cargo pallets (which will eventually be made into moveable room dividers)
  • Manuel, Ian, Devin, and I did various things

I’m sure I’m forgetting some things that got done. Thanks to everyone!

Projector purchased and mounted!

Okay, this is slightly old news now since we’ve been using the projector at our downtown space for over a week now, but Bill mounted the projector that we got for $150 at DEFCON.

Bill constructed the mount out of threaded steel pipe from Lowe’s, and he painted it black to match our ceiling. STEALTH MODE ACTIVATED.

Thanks, Bill! It looks awesome. And thank you for helping too, Manuel.

The projector itself is a little bit low-resolution (800×600 native), but it’s plenty bright and had only 16 hours on the bulb! Also, new bulbs are available for around $70-80 online because it’s a very common model. (The thing that usually makes used projectors less of a bargain is expensive replacement bulbs.)
