Projector purchased and mounted!

Okay, this is slightly old news now since we’ve been using the projector at our downtown space for over a week now, but Bill mounted the projector that we got for $150 at DEFCON.

Bill constructed the mount out of threaded steel pipe from Lowe’s, and he painted it black to match our ceiling. STEALTH MODE ACTIVATED.

Thanks, Bill! It looks awesome. And thank you for helping too, Manuel.

The projector itself is a little bit low-resolution (800×600 native), but it’s plenty bright and had only 16 hours on the bulb! Also, new bulbs are available for around $70-80 online because it’s a very common model. (The thing that usually makes used projectors less of a bargain is expensive replacement bulbs.)

Here are some photos from the Mars Curiosity Rover landing party that we held on August 5th at Hackerspace.

Come watch the Mars Rover landing with us at our new space!

Rover PartyThe Mars Science Laboratory is landing Sunday night, August 5th. It’s an amazing feat of engineering and the perfect event for us to host our first public gathering at our new location! So Sunday night, starting at 10 pm, we’ll be streaming NASA’s live coverage of the event (well, technically, there’s a 14 minute delay).

So come over, drink some beer, discuss cool projects, and watch an amazing piece of history unfold.

And if you could bring some beer, snacks, or other refreshments, that’d be awesome too.

Our new location is in the basement of the Sun Center, where Wise Guys use to be. 101 SE 2nd Pl, #202

What’s going on July 10th at Gainesville Hackerspace:

As announced a few weeks ago on the mailing list, and at every meet leading up to tonight, the annual meeting is tonight. Instead of holding a typical open meeting night, tonight Gainesville Hackerspace will be reviewing various administrative information and electing new board members.

All members are invited to attend. Other attendees are welcome too, but there won’t be much fun stuff to do.

Normal meetings will resume next week, July 17th, 2012. See you then!
